It's Embrace Your Geekness Day!

It's Embrace Your Geekness Day!

Today, July 13, is a very special day for our website. That's because it's "Embrace Your Geekness Day! The holiday was created by Wellcat Holidays: "Into dungeon games, comic books and doing vampire dress-up? Spend endless hours going to strange places on the internet? You're a geek, and this is the day to roar!".

We all have a little or a lot of geekness in us. Whether you are into sci-fi shows, superheroes comics, gaming, or have a desire to collect all the action figures out there, chances are you're a geek.

Truth is; we all have our own little obsessions, and those are the things that make us geeks.

The Geek and fans communities are amazing and full of awesome people who share the same passions and interests. And every day, more and more fans are joining those communities.

So, what is a geek?

Even though there are many definitions out there, some we would prefer to forget about, like this one that says that a geek is "an expert or enthusiast or a person obsessed with a hobby or intellectual pursuit, with a general pejorative meaning of a "peculiar person, especially one who is perceived to be overly intellectual, unfashionable, boring, or socially awkward" according to Wikipedia.

In simpler words, a geek is someone who is obsessed with one or more subjects and who can speak for hours about it and sound like a human encyclopedia when it comes to those subjects.

How to celebrate Embrace Your Geekness Day

It's a day that reminds us that we are not alone in our geekness. You can dress up like your favorite characters, you can share your love with your friends, do some art projects, have a great party and just have fun.

Today is the day to be loud and proud of all your quirkiness. For instance, I'm a geek for Bob's Burgers. Have you seen the show? What are you a geek for?

People should totally embrace their inner geekiness. We all have something we love or obsess and there is nothing wrong with embracing it.

The greatness of quirkiness is underrated. There definitely should be a day to celebrate it. :)

How did I not know this was a thing?!? I am a giant geek – a proud Trekkie, for one, and I’ve been playing JRPGs since the mid-80s!
