The Black Panther Costume Explained - 2018 Movie and Comics

Black Panther Costume Origins.

The ruler of the Wakandan Panther Clan is crowned with a ceremonial regalia in the form of a Vibranium laced panther costume. T'Challa received his first suit only after being judged by Bast, the Panther Goddess.

The appearance of the costume has changed over time, from the first design that never made it to print to how we see it in the Black Panther Movie Trailer by Marvel.

The abilities, however, remain the same or improve over time. The Black Panther suit has the ability to absorb vibrations via its Vibranium lacing, it can negate and/or lessen powerful kinetic based attacks such as bullet shots, penetrating blades, and crushing blows.

The lenses in the mask cut glare and enhance the Panther's natural night vision. The lenses also allow him to see in infra-red and other visual spectrums. Some other features are teleportation device, hard-light shielding, vibranium energy dagger, cloaking technology, energy-dampening boots, anti-metal claws, and vibranium microweave mesh.

Black Panther Costume: Hints from the 2018 Marvel Movie Trailer

The trailer for Black Panther reveals part of how the costume works in action, using nano-technology to form around T’Challa. The Japanese trailer also reveals the improvements Shuri, T'Challa's sister, made to the Black Panther costume, " It is lighter, completely bulletproof and it absorbs energy for redistributions " and got some purple details in as well.

The Black Panther Suit vs Killmonger's Costume

We also know, from the trailer, that the Black Panther costume will not be one of a kind, as we see Killmonger in a gold-accented one. We suspect this is his Golden Jaguar costume. What separates this other suit from the Black Panther costume, is the golden accents instead of silver, a fanged mask and booted feet, instead of the claw-shaped feet. But we still have to wait for the movie to be released to learn more about Killmonger's costume.

More awesome details about the Black Panther Costume that will make you want one for yourself:

So let's go back to the Black Panther Costume and explain it a bit more.

The Vibranium Microweave Mesh steals the momentum from incoming objects, so when bullets come in contact with the weave, they do not ricochet off, but simply fall to the ground. The only way the costume can be cut is if the attacker slashes along the uniform's grain.

black-panther claws costume

The claws in the gloves are made of Antarctic Vibranium-based "Anti-Metal" that can break down, at the molecular level, all metals. It also has the ability to emit small energy blades and launch them as projectiles.

The molded soles of the boots create energy regulator fields from the Vibranium, so he can survive a fall and land like a cat. With enough momentum, the Panther can also scale walls or skim across the water. The field can be used offensively, to shatter or weaken objects, or defensively to rob incoming objects of their momentum.

black panther cloak

The cloak allows him to cover his entire costume and pass as normal street clothes or even render T'Challa completely invisible. He can make the cloak longer, shorter or completely disappear with a single thought.

The energy blades can be handled like either a physical knife or fired like darts, and regenerated repeatedly. They can also be shaped into other various weapons like scythes or spears.
